STAR

STAR is an active youth movement whose mission is to inspire open dialogue and self reflection around racism in our schools and community by encouraging uncomfortable conversations, forming partnerships, and engaging in activism that seek to promote equity.

STAR students participate in training’s which have included Participative Action, Undoing Racism, Groundwater, Racial Identity, Beyond Poverty, & Youth Empowerment.  STAR students learn how to engage in public speaking and have presented at conferences, BOE meetings, commissioners’ meetings, town councils and to the NAACP.  STAR also represents the voice of the youth on the other Action Committees and have taken part in interviewing political candidates and more recently meeting with law enforcement and the Kent County State’s Attorney, in order to create an alliance between the community and the criminal justice system committed to fairness and mutual respect.
